Psalm 92:12 reads, “The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.” (KJV) This song contrasts the condition of the righteous with that of the graceless. Palm trees are firm and strong and have a long continuance. The unrighteous are like grass, which is weak, tender and short lived. The unrighteous spring as the grass, but the growth of the righteous is like the palm tree whose growth may not be so rapid, but their endurance may last for centuries. It is in fine contrast with the transitory verdure of the meadow. Palm trees stand erect, sending all of its strength upward in one bold column and growing amid the dearth and drought of the desert. The palm tree is beautiful, with its tall and verdant canopy and the silvery flashes of its waving plumes. The palm tree grows in the sand, but the sand is not its food. Water from below feeds its taproots. The palm tree, standing erect, gives us a beautiful picture of a believer whose aim alone is the glory of God. The Christian who lives soberly, righteously, and godly, is like a flourishing palm tree, which grows upright, and under the greatest pressures rises, upwards against the greatest weight upon them. Like the palm tree, they bear delicious fruit in hot climates and is ever green in sunny places. They are very durable, and their branches are used as tokens of joy and victory. The tall verdant canopy of the palm tree teaches us that the believer’s virtues aren’t downward, but they shoot upwards. Their heart is upright, those whose desires and affections are towards Jesus. Lebanon is where the best, tallest, largest, and strongest cedars grow. The committed believer shall grow up higher and higher, even to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. If you’re parched, faith’s penetrating roots will reach the wellspring of living water and provide nourishment for you. Grow in every grace, of faith, hope, love, humility, self-denial, and submission to the will of God, and in the knowledge of Jesus, the Christ, in whom your life is hidden in God. Have a Purpose Driven Day. P.S. Always remember … Worship is a lifestyle, not a momentary experience. Rev. Brown is the President/CEO of Word-Song Ministries and Ministry Solutions Group.
